Welcome to the 2010 International High-Power Laser Ablation Conference! The HPLA series addresses all aspects of the interaction of lasers with condensed matter, from fundamental theory and simulations to material processing. Groundbreaking physics is discussed for its own sake, but we also devote some sessions, as appropriate, to recent advances in laser physics which are of use in applications. In the past, these have ranged from femtosecond material processing to space propulsion. At the 2010 conference, we plan to have an update on the status of NIF, the National Ignition Facility. Our overall goal is to bring together leading specialists in laser-materials interaction physics and laser science in a collegial atmosphere with all-plenary sessions. The range of topics is diverse, but the focus within each is on fundamental results.  Therefore, attendees can expect to learn about the very latest results at a depth usually reserved for specialist conferences, but in a broader range tied together by the physical phenomenon of high power laser ablation.  Because there is only time in our four-day format for a representative sample of forefront oral papers, the majority of papers are presented at our evening poster sessions, which have become a focus for the exchange of new ideas.

23.03.-25.03.2010
Regensburg | Germany | Booth # 43 (Level 1)

In 2010, three DPG Spring Conferences will be taking place again with exhibitions of industrial equipment and literature. This type of conference has been very successful for many years and attracts a large number of physicists. Year after year, the conferences on Condensed Material are the largest scientific physics conference event held in Europe. In 2009, more than 9,700 people took part in the three DPG conferences. The number of participants has increased steadily over the past few years. At the same time, the number of companies interested in the exhibitions is increasing year by year.We would like to continue the tradition of holding the DPG Spring Conferences at universities. The DPG Spring Conferences, and thus parallel to these the industrial and literature exhibitions, are visited by thousands of physicists, from physics students through post docs to professors and even world famous Nobel Prize winners. Unlike at trade fairs, which visitors have to be "tempted" to visit in the first place at no little cost to exhibitors, your customers are already present when the exhibition begins! Use this opportunity to make lots of interesting contacts and refresh old ones in a pleasant conference atmosphere.

Welcome to the 1st Porto Workshop on Sources of Super-intense and Ultrashort Laser Pulses. This workshop is part of the scientific activity of the programme "Super-intense Laser-matter Interactions" (SILMI) of the European Science Foundation and is focused on the development, characterization and applications of new sources of super-intense and/or ultrashort pulses, with emphasis on two major directions in technology:

* generation of infrared and optical pulses at higher repetition rates, shorter durations, and higher peak intensities;

* development of more efficient laser-pumped high-order harmonic sources, capable of generating attosecond pulses for sub-femtosecond control and pump-probe experiments.

This workshop is expected to be an important forum for communication of new ideas and methods in ultrashort laser pulse technology and applications, and will be hosted by IFIMIP/IN - Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Porto, Portugal.

LEI 2009
16.10.-21.10.2009
Romania | Brasov

Light at Extreme Intensities | Scientific opportunities and technoloical issues of the Extreme light Infrastructure | The aim of the LEI 2009 conference, the first of an intended series, is to reassemble researchers of different countries with the aim of designing both the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) and the future experiments that can be carried out on the facility.  ELI, hosting the most powerful, Exawatt-class laser in the world, will be able to address laser matter interaction in the hitherto unreachable intensity regime, the ultra relativistic regime >1024 W/cm2, where electrons and ions in the laser field exhibit a relativistic character.

ELI’s fundamental mission will focus on the structure of matter from solid to vacuum. It will investigate and implement a new generation of compact, laser based accelerators delivering energetic particles and radiation beams of femtosecond (10-15 s) to attosecond (10-18 s) duration. The strict synchronization between the main beam and secondary beams will open up new possibilities, extending to nonlinear QED where the field produced could polarize vacuum and challenge the vacuum critical field.

ELI will provide the society with tangible benefits ranging from improvement of oncology treatment, thorough medical imaging and fast electronics to development of new methods of nuclear waste processing. Research papers are expected from all domains of the scientific and technological fields related to ELI, including the “Grand Scientific Challenges” that will become possible to be investigated with ELI.

ISUILS8 - International Symposium on Ultrafasr Intense Laser Science
03.-07.10.2009
Greece | Krete

SCOPE: The history of science shows that seeing or probing matter through light has deepened our understanding of nature. The role of light was long limited to a weak probe of atomic structure. The development of ultrashort laser pulse technology has made possible the generation of extremely intense laser light fields whose magnitude can even exceed that of the Coulomb field within atoms and molecules. The behavior of matter under such pulses has been a very exciting and challenging field of investigation over the past 15 years.

New possibilities for controlling and fine-designing their spectral amplitude and phase have opened an entirely new domain of light-matter interaction for ultrashort intense laser pulses. From recent pioneering studies, it has been revealed that such pulses can optimally control the dynamical behavior of atoms, molecules and clusters.

It has also come to researchers' attention that the irradiation of intense laser light onto solid and liquid materials induces the generation of short-pulsed soft- and hard-X rays as well as high-energy electrons, ions and neutrons. These quantum emissions are now regarded as extremely promising sources for time-resolved measurements.

The field of ultrafast intense laser science, clustering both the fundamental and applied aspects of ultrashort (femtosecond to attosecond), intense (1014 to 1018 W.cm-2) pulses is now rapidly increasing worldwide not only in physics (nonlinear optics, plasma time-resolved spectroscopy, metrology), chemistry (physical chemistry, molecular science), but also biology.

The ISUILS was designed to promote this field and explore its frontiers by favoring interdisciplinary discussions among scientists from different research areas including physics, chemistry, biology and laser engineering.
